Who is responsible

Sam Weir, trading as Women on the Wild Side, is the controller of your personal information. That means I decide how it is used. You can reach me at womenonthewildside@gmail.com.

What I collect

I collect information only when you sign up for the newsletter. When you sign up I store your first name, your email address, the date and time you agreed, which wording you agreed to, and that you signed up on the site.

When you click the link in the confirmation email, I also store the time you confirmed and add you to the newsletter list. The link works for 7 days. I keep only a scrambled copy of its code, not the link itself, and I delete that copy once the link has been used.

I do not collect a phone number, a postal address or any payment details, and the site has no advertising and no cookies.

Visits are counted with PostHog, a service hosted in Frankfurt. It stores nothing on your device and does not identify you. It counts the page viewed, the page you came from and the type of device, and the count starts again each day.

Why I use it

I use it to send you the newsletter, and for nothing else. I only email you after you have confirmed, because you agreed to it by ticking the box and clicking the link. That agreement is my reason for using your information, and you can take it back at any time. I do not sell your information or share it for anyone else's marketing.

If you sign up but never click the link, you are not on the newsletter list and I do not send you the newsletter.

Unsubscribing

Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link. One click and I stop emailing you. Your record is not deleted. It is marked as unsubscribed, with the time and how it happened: your link, or your email provider telling me the address bounces or that you marked a message as spam. I keep the marked record so I never email you again by mistake. If you want it deleted completely, email me and I will do it.

Where it is held

Your information is held in a database run by Amazon Web Services in its London region, and the emails are sent through Amazon SES, also in London. Amazon acts for me as a processor, which means it handles the information on my behalf. The admin area where I manage the list is for me only.

How long I keep it

I keep your details while you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe I keep the marked record described above. I do not delete records automatically, so every record stays until you ask me to delete it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask me to:

  • tell you what I hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete your information;
  • limit how I use it, or stop using it;
  • give you your information in a form you can move elsewhere.

You can also take back your agreement to the newsletter at any time. Email me at womenonthewildside@gmail.com and I will reply within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how I have used your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
